Who We Are
The Step Up Aim High Foundation was birthed in 2018 and officially formulated in 2020 to provide scholarships to Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) for high school marching band seniors in the Greater New Orleans area who exhibited outstanding musical and academic achievement. Since our inception, we have successfully raised and awarded over $8,000 in scholarships to 8 students and their families. Watch one of our parental testimonials HERE.
In 2024, the organization’s vision expanded in an effort to provide more than just scholarships to students but invaluable resources, workshops and training for at-risk youth and underserved families and communities. According to the American Community Survey, the average African-American household income for Orleans Parish residents in 2022 was only $34,552, an astounding amount, considering that it’s $2,000 less than the $36,450 average in 1979. This data uncovers not only systemic poverty but a long tenure of underperforming schools, a lack of access to competent career skills and a strong inclination to commit crimes.
Thus, Step Up Aim High is creating full service year-long community campaigns that will target specified zip codes in the Greater New Orleans area to provide all underserved community members with the resources needed to lead healthy, productive, culturally competent and successful lives. These resources include feeding fairs, career, vocational & music workshops, home buying & financial literacy classes, new parenting training and MORE… It’s time to stop talking about a solution and become the solution TODAY!
